Nicknaming the H390 “Robin Hood” may sound bold. After all, it’s not cheap, and we’re not giving it away to the poor. But it’s a rebellion against the status quo. It’s a rebellion against the idea that consumers must accept a user interface dictated by the amplifier or streamer manufacturer. At the heart of the H390 is Hegel’s patented SoundEngine 2 amplifier section. SoundEngine 2 functions much like noise-canceling headphones: an internal processor analyzes the incoming signal, compares it to the output, subtracts the difference (i.e., distortion), and reinserts it into the music signal in reverse phase. The result is that, without any time delay, the SoundEngine cancels out nearly all amplifier errors, delivering the most natural and musical sound you’ve ever heard.

Next comes the digital section. If you're not using a turntable, you're likely using digital connections. Hegel designs both the analog and digital sections from the ground up, entirely in-house. The digital section in the H390 is unique because, regardless of signal type or input, the music signal remains completely untouched. We call it a bit-perfect DAC. This is digital in its purest form. For the technically curious, we even design digital clocks that follow the sampling rate of the music and “down-clock” for low-resolution files. For the non-technical listener, the result is a much more natural and “analog” sound, with incredible soundstage and realism.

Finally, connectivity: the H390 features Apple AirPlay and UPnP streaming. We offer free updates for services like Spotify Connect, IP Control, and Control4. It supports most audio formats, including DSD and MQA. All inputs can be configured for volume bypass, making it easy to integrate into a home theater system or with devices like Bluesound or Sonos. Whatever you want to do, the H390 can handle it.

The H390 is a complete product.
